This problem was only visible on Windows 7 with an Intel USB 3.0 host controller.

The best solution is to upgrade the DisplayLink drivers first, as they’re compatible with both the old and new versions of the Intel / Nvidia graphics drivers. In short, if the newer Intel / Nvidia drivers are installed without first upgrading the DisplayLink drivers to 7.9 M3 or later, DisplayLink functionality will break until the DisplayLink driver is upgraded.

We’re expecting that Microsoft will also make this same DisplayLink driver available via Windows Update as a high-priority update on October 27th. We are recommending that all Windows 10 users update to this version of the DisplayLink driver at this time, as this new version includes a preemptive fix for a compatibility break with coming versions of Intel and Nvidia Graphics drivers. The latest version of the DisplayLink driver can be downloaded here. All of Plugable’s USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 docking stations and graphics adapters will work with this new driver. We’re excited to have this new driver set out, as it fixes various Windows 10 issues. I am hoping they will wake up and make changes for the good in a timely fashion.Today DisplayLink released their new Windows Drivers, Version 7.9 M3 (7.9.630.0). I have been a huge fan of Kensington trackball hardware for over a decade, but alas the current owners are not committed to software support, or a streamlined and useful customer support system.

This is for software that hasn't been updated since July of 2011. A software fix was projected for the "first quarter of 2013". Their solution? "Don't restart your computer". Two weeks of on-again off-again replies finally led to the revelation that a software fix was necessary. Even though they were already aware of the problem, they required 4 screenshots of "About This Mac" panes uploaded to their site BEFORE they would even talk to me. Now, they have enabled a byzantine anti-support system that is outsourced to India. Several years ago I could reach a knowledgeable tech person by phone in 5 minutes. I could only get my preferences back by opening the Trackball preference pane, an annoying chore at launch. I recently did a Clean Install of ML, and from the get-go my preferences for my Expert Mouse Trackball were "forgotten" after a restart.

Sorry to say that TrackballWorks is incompatible with Mountain Lion for me.
